GUANGZHOU : A girl living and carrying an "elephant-head look-alike" face for the passed 18 years was make known to Malaysian of all races in the printed media when she was spotted by journalists while she was claiming her SPM examination results at her school at SMK Tokai, Pendang on March 20th this year.

The girl is Hong Siew Hui,18, of Taman Bersatu, Simpang Empat,Alor Star, Kedah. She is the youngest in the family of six. Her father is Hong Wah,61,a farmer while her mother is Goh Jit Yang, 58, is a housewife.

She, who sat for 11 subjects, scored a 1A in Mathematics which is her favourite subject followed by a 3B, two 4Bs and a 5C.

Her story attracting Malaysian of all races including associations and NGO.

Then, second 'elephant-head look-alike' face youth Tan Kia Khim,25, a coffeeshop helper, of Taman Thean Peng, Alor Star, appeared in printed media. Hong and Tan met for the first time at Hong's house.

Below are events which took place till both of them departed from Alor Star to Guangzhou, China for preliminary check-up and operation on April 15th.

-A professor from Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou met the two youth personnally.
-Kedah Chinese Assembly Hall (KCAH) set-up a fundraising campaign named "KCAH Special Medical Fund" to gather donations from public to send the two elephant faces youth to seek treatment at Fuda Cancer Hospital.

-STAR carried the stories of Hong and Tan together with other six local chinese newspapers to provide publicity for the fundraising campaign.

-May 14th KCAH hosted a bon voyage luncheon for the pair where letters from well-wishers and donors were read out.12 chinese societies handed over donations amounting to RM11,000 to KCAH.

-May 15th, Hong and Tan flying to Guangzhou, China for a two-week preliminary medical check-up.

-The Kedah Chinese Assembly Hall (KCAH) had raised RM300,000 till June 3rd.

-May 15th, The China Press begin to publish Hong and Tan diaries since the first day they reached Fuda Cancer Hospital.

-May 20, The China Press creating an SMS services to allow readers to send their short messages to support Hong and Tan.Till June 7th more than 1200 SMSs had been received and forwarded to Hong and Tan by fax to Fuda Cancer Hospital.

-June 5th, Tan's father Tan Seong Meng 50, flew in from Alor Star to support his son.

-June 7th, Fuda Cancer Hospital carried out first operation on Hong at 3.00pm. While Tan's operation was fixed on 9th June 8.00am.

-Hong's operation success after one and half hour operation and receiving 12 injection.
