(Our Web News) Professor Xu, president of Fuda Cancer Hospital, Guangzhou and his deputy Dr. Niu , upon the invitation of Professor Franco, president of International Society of Cryosurgery, visited Europe from 14th April to 22nd April, 2008. The places visited included Rome, Madrid, Palma De Mallorca, Malaga, Trieste and Venice.
While in Palma De Mallorca, Malaga and Trisete, Professor Xu and Dr. Niu delivered an academic report on “Percutaneous Cryosurgery for Cancer based on experience from 3580 cases of cancer treatment at Fuda Cancer Hospital, Guangzhou”.
The report focused on the use of cryosurgery in treatment of lung cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer and other malignant tumors. About a hundred medical professionals and specialists attended the medical forum.
The forum also discussed on suitability of cryosurgery for various cancer, the techniques involved, side effects and treatment effectiveness.
Participants at the forum were very impressed with and praised the achievements of Fuda Cancer Hospital in the treatment of lung cancer by cryosurgery operations performed percutaneously under the guidance of CT scan. For non-resectable lung cancer and for patients who are unsuitable to undergo surgical operations, cryosurgery is of great importance to them.
Participants were very much interested in the treatment of pancreatic cancer by cryosurgery, which they believed would help to prolong the life expectancy of pancreatic cancer patients. Dr. Niu also participated with a team of local specialists to perform a cryosurgery operation on a prostate cancer patient.
