(This is part of an ongoing blog written by Elvi de Quiroz, sister to Felicitas Lacson who is currently undergoing treatment for metastatic pancreatic cancer)
Blog – April 23, 2010
Left: Felictas with her sister Elvie Yesterday, Dr. Zhang, the oncologist discussed the results of the CT scan with us. It did confirm what we already know from the previous scan with Kaiser. What is different though is the treatment approach. Dr. Zhang stated that pancreatic cancer does not respond well to chemotherapy, something the Kaiser doctor would not say since chemo is the only treatment they're recommending and a change of drugs if the first one does not work. Luckily, Yanggi did not get that. Dr. Zhang very patiently explained the treatment plan and why this is the best plan for her case. We went through each film and she pointed out all areas affected and the plan of treatment for each. The plan is to first attack the pancreatic tumor with cryosurgery and iodine seed implantation (I think a total of 50 seeds more or less). Immunotherapy is also part of the plan. The liver will be treated next week. Dr. Zhang commented that of all pancreatic cancer patients she has treated, Yanggi has displayed the least symptoms and the best endurance and attitude. She seems very optimistic about the outcome. I am too. She'll be wheeled to the surgery room at 8:00 am, an hour from now. Dr. Niu, the most experienced dr. on staff (and believe around the world) in the field of cryosurgery and also President of Fuda (Kecheng Xu is Chief President) together with another doctor (forgot the name) will perform the cryosurgery. I just know with all our prayers, Yanggi will be healed. Please continue to pray for her. I will keep you posted. Love you all. [Update from the 24th , parts of it written in Tagalog]
Yanggi is back in the room but still hooked up to tubes for medicine and nutrition. Naka-catheter pa siya at medyo mahina pa ang energy level. Baka bukas pa siya puwedeng kumain. Good timing kami ng dating here. In a matter of 4 days, na-address na yung main problem, the pancreatic tumor. They don't do procedures on weekends. Medyo one big hurdle down. The next procedure should not be as complicated. The rest is really up to HIM. Thanks for your continuing prayers and support.
